Keyboard Tester – Test Keys and Buttons on the Keyboard
Review by on
Keyboard Tester is an application that weighs in at less than 100KB, so downloading it should take but a moment, even if you have to contend with the lousiest internet connection in the world. You are presumably going to like the fact that downloading this Shadow Image Data Recovery-developed application will only take a moment.

Speaking of things you are going to like, there are a few other bits and pieces you are going to like. The programs functionality stands out in this regard: you can use Keyboard Tester to, as the name so adequately points out, test the keys and buttons on your keyboard and see if they’re working properly. The application also allows you to test some controls on your keyboard, like for example the zoom controls.

According to Shadow Image Data Recovery, two goals were always kept in mind when coming up with Keyboard Tester:
- To let any computer user test if the keys, buttons and controls on the keyboard work properly.
- To let any computer user find out if keys, buttons and controls on the keyboard are stuck.

Please note that Keyboard Tester cannot be run in Windows; Keyboard Tester can be run in DOS. To run the program, you must be in DOS. Info on how to create a bootdisk to get to DOS is provided in the README.1ST that comes with the application.

The fact that you have to run Keyboard Tester in DOS may not be to your liking. There are other bits that you are not going to like. For example you are not going to like that fact that Keyboard Tester is not freeware; the application is in fact shareware, meaning you will have to pay to use it after the trial period is over. To add to your discontent, the trial version is limited. It can only test the following keys: A, B, C, N, S, Enter, Esc, Pause, Caps Lock, Num Lock, Scroll Lock, and ScrLk.

Pros
  • Tests keys and buttons on the keyboard
  • Can test keyboards with a 5-pin and 6-pin DIN connector or a USB connector

Cons
  • Shareware
  • Trial version is limited
  • Cannot test mouse buttons on keyboards
